Challenge Overview

Apparel Group was operating a large-scale cloud environment on Microsoft Azure, supporting mission-critical retail and e-commerce workloads, including customer-facing web platforms, transactional databases, and backend business systems. While the Azure environment enabled initial cloud adoption, the organization faced challenges related to cost optimization, scalability during peak retail seasons, operational complexity, and long-term platform standardization.

As the business continued to grow across regions and brands, Apparel Group required a cloud platform that could provide predictable cost efficiency, improved resilience, and elastic scalability, while supporting future modernization and DevOps adoption. The migration needed to be executed with minimal business disruption, maintaining availability and performance across digital channels.

Solution Overview

F9 Infotech partnered with Apparel Group to design and deliver a migration aligned with the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP). The engagement followed a structured approach covering assessment, planning, and execution, with a strong focus on business continuity, cost optimization, and scalability.

A redeployment-based migration strategy was selected, allowing workloads to be rebuilt and deployed natively on AWS with optimized configurations, improved security baselines, and standardized operational practices. This approach reduced technical debt and enabled a controlled transition aligned with business timelines.

Assessment & Planning

As part of the Assess phase, F9 Infotech conducted a Migration Readiness Assessment (MRA) aligned with the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) across Business, People, Governance, Platform, Security, and Operations perspectives.

Application and infrastructure inventory was provided by Apparel Group from the existing Azure environment. This data was imported into AWS Migration Portfolio Assessment (MPA) to perform portfolio analysis, cost modeling, dependency grouping, migration strategy recommendations, and migration wave planning. The outcome of this phase was a validated business case, migration roadmap, and phased execution plan aligned with business priorities.

Target Architecture

F9 Infotech designed a secure, scalable, and highly available AWS target architecture using AWS-native services, including:

  • AWS Control Tower for multi-account landing zone and governance
  • Amazon VPC with segmented subnets and secure network design
  • Amazon EC2 with right-sized instances for application workloads
  • Amazon RDS (Multi-AZ) for managed relational databases
  • Application Load Balancer (ALB) for traffic distribution and health checks
  • Amazon Route 53 for DNS and traffic routing
  • AWS WAF for application-layer security
  • AWS IAM for centralized access control
  • Amazon CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail for monitoring and audit logging
  • Infrastructure provisioning and configuration were standardized using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure repeatability and operational consistency

    Migration Execution

    The migration was executed in phased waves, beginning with non-production workloads and progressing to production systems after validation. Application servers were redeployed on AWS EC2 using optimized configurations, while databases were rebuilt on Amazon RDS with controlled data cutover processes. Comprehensive testing, validation, and rollback procedures were defined to minimize risk and ensure a smooth transition to production.

    Security & Governance

    Security and compliance requirements were embedded throughout the migration. The solution implemented least-privilege access controls, network isolation, centralized logging, continuous monitoring, and security posture management using AWS-native services. This ensured alignment with Apparel Group’s internal security standards and industry best practices.

    Business Case & Cost Optimization

    F9 Infotech developed a detailed business case and TCO analysis comparing Azure and AWS environments. Using AWS Migration Portfolio Assessment (MPA) and AWS pricing models, the analysis covered infrastructure costs, operational overhead, and migration effort.

    The assessment demonstrated an estimated 25–35% reduction in infrastructurerelated costs, achieved through right-sizing, optimized pricing models, and elimination of inefficiencies present in the previous environment.
